C&P Recruitment is seeking an experienced, safety-focused Site Ganger to lead site operatives and subcontractors. This role combines hands-on site leadership with practical coordination, administration, and progress monitoring to support the safe and efficient delivery of our civil engineering, utilities, groundworks, drainage, concrete, and highway maintenance activities.
Role Overview
As a Site Ganger, you will be the key link between site management and physical delivery. You will work alongside your crew on specialised tasks while maintaining tight control over health, safety, and productivity on-site.Position Type: Full-time, PermanentLocation: On-site (Field-based)Reporting to: Site Manager / Project Manager????
Core Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Coordination
Direct, coordinate, and motivate site operatives and subcontractors on a daily basis.
Allocate daily workloads, brief crew members, and ensure teams are working productively.
Resolve on-site bottlenecks, material shortages, and day-to-day conflicts quickly.
Safety Leadership
Enforce a strict health and safety culture across all site personnel and visitors.
Deliver daily pre-start briefings and conduct regular toolbox talks.
Manage, communicate, and update Point of Work Risk Assessments (POWRA).
Ensure strict compliance with personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
Hands-on Delivery & Progress Monitoring
Work actively alongside the crew on specialised tasks, including deep drainage, general groundworks, concrete pours, and highway maintenance.
Track productivity against project schedules and report timelines to the Site Foreman or Agent.
Plan and organise daily plant operations and material deliveries, implementing contingency plans for adverse weather.
Site Administration
Maintain accurate daily site logs and digital/paper records.
Record plant, commercial vehicle, and tool equipment usage.
Review, sign off, and issue basic site work permits.
Key Requirements & Qualifications
Mandatory Criteria
SSSTS Certification: Valid Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) qualification is strictly mandatory for this role. (SMSTS is also accepted)
.CSCS Card: A valid, current Construction Skills Certification Scheme card.
Driving Licence: A full UK driving licence is required.
Experience: Several years of proven, hands-on experience working as a Ganger or Working Supervisor within civil engineering, utilities, or heavy groundworks.
Desirable Criteria
Valid plant tickets (e.g., CPCS or NPORS).NRSWA Street Works qualifications.
Skills & Personal Capabilities
Communication: Clear, authoritative instruction-giving skills with a natural ability to manage subcontractor teams.
Organisation: Exceptional planning skills regarding materials, plant, and labor timeline dependencies.
Physical Fitness: Capability to spend long hours on your feet, working outdoors in varied and challenging UK weather conditions.
